Hotel Stella Maris
William O'Dannell, an elite of Adams Finance in London, receives directly from its president an order to rebuild Hotel Stella Maris, a small hotel in California. The sea expanding in front of the hotel is said to glitter with blue in the light of the full moon as if it were jeweled with stars. When the hotel opened in 1932, it was a great success and enjoyed the patronage of celebrities coming from the four corners of the country. However, it has become unsuccessful following the change of the times, and is now on the verge of bankruptcy.
William studies the hotel in cooperation with Stacy, concierge of the hotel and a daughter of Maurice, president of the hotel. He notices the high vacancy rate of the rooms and the low morale among the employees who are upset by rumors that the hotel is on sale. However, Maurice reveals his affection for the hotel and assures William that the hotel shall be rebuilt once its proper features are widely made known. William also realizes that Stacy and the manager Allen Kendall really love the hotel. William proposes his reconstruction plan on several occasions and proceeds to reduce costs by employing various measures. The employees are now fearful lest they should be dismissed and some of them can hardly do their jobs and are far from active in rebuilding the hotel.
Stacy who heartily loves the hotel and wishes its continuation is looking for an avenue to rebuild the hotel making the best use of its features. In the course of working with Stacy, William becomes aware that his plan has not any affection in the hotel and on the land where it stands. Stacy hits upon a plan that enables the staff to work with hope. Her plan wins the employees' favorable approval thereby William wins their confidence. Now all of them step ahead for the rebuilding of the hotel.
