The Blue Danube
Set in 19th century Vienna, a tale of the "King of Waltz."
The eldest son of Johann Strauss, and sharing his father's name, Johann wanted to make beautiful music like his father. However, knowing the struggles of life as a composer, Strauss Sr. forbid his children to study music.
Johann disobeys his father's orders, learning the piano and violin and how to compose. He leaves his home at a young age because of his father's opposition, and makes a living tutoring in music selling his own. Then his father appears before him again, once more ordering him to give up music and become a businessman. Johann is torn between continuing as a composer and following his father's wishes, and plans to destroy his sheet music.
Happily, Teresa, the daughter of a count who he has been tutoring gives him the strength to continue on as a musician. He regains his earlier furvor for music and even has his piece "The Blue Danube" performed, which is a huge success.
That's Family
A sister piece to the wildly popular "Bon Balance" performed in March.
