Nara Period 1001 Nights: Redhead from Amagasaki

Fourth in Shibata Yukihiro's "Nara Period 1001 Nights" series, following "Dream Saburou" (1963), "The Mute Wife" (Note: This might be a typo, as this show was not by Shibata-S), and "Beauty from a Demon" (1966). A drama with folk-lore roots, focused on the life of a woman who was self-deprecating about her appearance.

Set in the Nara Period. Yohei left the countryside to go to the capital to make his fortune, but within a day all of his money was stolen, and while he was puzzling over what to do he came across a samurai who had collapsed from illness and who entrusted an important letter to him.

The letter was to be delivered to Counselor Higashiyama, but he makes a mistake and delivers it to Counselor Nishiyama instead.

Of course, once he delivers his mistake he goes to Higashiyama, and is shown the way by Counselor Nishiyama's Princess Aiko. This princess is kindhearted and beautiful, but is scorned for her red hair, and her lonely days are spent without company.

Yohei is attracted to Princess Aiko's personality, and goes to Kanzeon's hall of worship every day to pray for her hair to turn black.

Hearing about this, all the men in the world, starting with Prince Kuretake, begin to vie for the princess's hand.

However, the princess knows that the most important thing in this world isn't your outward appearance, but what is in your heart. She refuses all of the marriage proposals and decides to become Yohei's wife.

Musical Comedy: Over the Rainbow

Harada Gojirou is an employee for the Parisian branch of the model Japanese Itochou trading company. He is asked to act as a guide for the Harukawa's, who made a fortune in Hawaii, and then in the evening goes with them to enjoy a night club.

Just then, Albert, an employee of the client trading company Alhambra suddenly needs to return to his home country of Rainbownia on urgent business, and Harada and the Harugawas accompany him.

The reason Albert needed to return so urgently is that a giant load of uranium was discovered, and other countries are maneuvering behind the scenes to get right s to it.

Rainbownia has three princesses. The first princess is Princess Marianna, who is the heir to the kingdom. The other countries have dispatched single and handsom ambassadors, and the prime minister thinks that his nephew Albert will be a better fit for Princess Marianna.

When Harada arrives, he is put in charge of Princess Marianna's education at the suggestion of Albert. Because of this, the princess grows fond of him, and Harada also has fallen for the princess at first glance.

Seeing this, the Harukawas think that if they act as a go-between for the two, Japan may get rights to the uranium, and they curry favor with the minister's secretary Peppy.

Then, when it is uncovered that Harada is an employee of a Japanese trading company, the dowager empress cuts his ties with the princess and sentences him to be deported.

Harada, who is deeply in love with Princess Marianna, makes a risky gamble which may be the end of everything....
