Rome 1498. The Borgia family is prosperous due to the great power of Pope Alessandro VI, who is both patriarch of the Borgia family and the the head of the Church. Cesare, the first son, decides to follow his ambition and relinquish his position of Cardinal, second only in power to the Pope. This bold choice is one which is to change his life.

Dignitaries and states-people from the surrounding countries are baffled, but Machiavelli, a diplomat of Florence, suspects that is is Cesare`s intention to unite Italy. During an earlier invasion by King Charlies VIII of France, Cesare experienced the powerlessness of his country and has decided to change Rome by breaking his relations with the authorities.

He consults with King Louis XII of France as to how to enlarge his sphere of power. Louis wants to annul his current marriage and wed Anne, who holds vast territory. To these ends Cesare, taking advantage of the power of his father the Pope issues Louis with a permit of divorce, In return Cesare enlists Louis` help in marrying Charlotte, a cousin of Louis, while pretending to wed the daughter of the King of Naples. He both received territory in France as a Duke and is bestowed the title of Duke Valentino in Italy. In addition, the agreement is concluded that Louis will support Cesare`s actions in Italy in return for Cesare`s assistance in Louis` aggression towards Milan and Naples.

Cesare`s first aim is to regain the Pope`s territory in Romagna. He makes overtures of peace with Lady Catherina to have Imora become Romagna`s key strategic city. Cesare gains Catherina`s loyalty, and his next plan is to break with Naples. He orders an adjutant Don Michelot to kill Duke Bislie of Napes, the second husband of Cesare`s sister Lucrezia. Despite this, Lucrezia could never hate Cesare. She has lover her brother dearly since girlhood, even though he has often used her as a tool in marriages of convenience. Cesare`s strategy is making progress. Just before complete control of Romagna, he must not be off guard to Venice from the east. As Lucrezia`s third husband, Cesare chooses Duke Alfonso Deste of Ferrara, a state located between Romagna and Venice. Lucrezia marries the Duke despite her deep attachment to Cesare. Cesare also tries to get over his love for Lucrezia.

Under the protection of Pope Alessandro VI, Cesare gains territory one by one in the space of two years. After this time, however, the mercenaries who are unsympathetic to Cesare`s cause revolt against him. Cesare is attacked both by mercenaries and Bologna, but he succeeds in skillfully suppressing Romagna.

When he has almost succeeded in united Italy, an unexpected tragedy strikes the Borgia family. Pope Alessandro dies suddenly from an infection disease and the next victim to fall to the dreaded disease is Cesare. He is no longer able to move and his enemies, who surround him on all side, do not miss the opportunity. At first, Venice begins to advance. Soon after Lovere, an old enemy of the Borgia family becomes the new Pope, and King Louis XII of France also abandons Cesare. At last Cesare is captured and confined in the interior of Spain. Although he escapes and hides in Navara, his wife`s home country, he becomes involved in a local conflict and is killed too soon.

A young life of thirty-one years disappears in the morning mist. Cesare Borgia, a light which God sent to save Italy from confusion is extinguished in its prime by fate.

The Queen of Latin and a tropical singer come forth and sing an invitation to the Latin world. A Latin heaven appears after the curtains have opened. A variety of Latin dances are performed, including passionate and lively dance numbers, a captivating dance by a Latin couple and a romantic dance by a boy and girl from ma southern island. The last scene is a dynamic and powerful dance to the passionate music in which all the members participate.
