Red Flowers Fall in Menam

Based on the true story of Yamada Nagamasa, a Japanese adventurer who lived in a Siamese kingdom in the 17th century and became entangled in succession politics there.

1625, the kingdom of Siam is at peace under the rule of King Songtham.

Yamada Nagamasa, a student of military tactics and strategy in Japan, is smuggled into Siam along with Imamura Ukyou and Hyoudou Gonpachi. They want to try out their military tactics in a new world.

When they arrived in the capital city of Ayutthaya, King Songtham's eldest daughter Narada happened to be passing by, and she immediately was fascinated by Nagamasa.

In the Japanese quarter of Ayutthaya there was a tavern called Surugaya. The owner O-Ichi was being hassled by a drunk man and was saved by Nagamasa and his friends, after which she came to feel something like love for Nagamasa.

Hearing of Nagamasa's meeting with Princess Narada, he is invited to an audience with King Songtham. Suddenly, Princess Narada's fiance, the minister of military affairs Karaphom announces and urgent report that neighboring Burma has sent a large army on the attack.

Nagamasa borrows 2,000 soldiers with the permission of the king, and defeats the Burmese.

Nagamasa earns the trust and thanks of the king, which causes Karaphom to hate him all the more.

Time passes, the old king dies, and his son Prince Chettha becomes king, and three years flow by.

Japan begins its policy of national isolation, and one by one the Japanese living in Siam return home to Japan. The only ones left are Nagamasa, Ukyou, O-Ichi, Gonpachi, and Tazuru.

Then, the Spanish and Portuguese announce that they will cut off trade so long as there are Japanese in the palace. For the sake of the country, Nagamasa must be killed. The king thinks that rather than have Karaphom do it, he should do it with his own hands.

Learning of this, Nagamasa says farewell to his wife and child, and attends to the palace where he accepts the poisoned cup from the king....
