Seagulls! Crossing the Rough Sea

The Sister Version of "Red Flowers Fall in Menam."

This is the second work directed by Onoe Shouroku (kabuki actor), and is a work with themes of the racial and political problems surrounding the sending of young children of mixed-race away over the Southern Sea.

Yamada Nagamasa disappears in Siam. Twenty years pass, and King Chettha has recently passed away as well.

Because King Chettha and Queen Amina had no children, dark clouds gather in a dispute over who is heir to the throne. The only young man with royal blood is Oin, son of Nagamasa and Princess Karini. However, because no one knows where Oin has gone, the king ordered Artyom to search.

At the same time, in neighboring Burma, the village of Orhon has become a place of refuge for Japanese children of mixed parentage. However, the actual people of Orhon hate the children, and the persecution continues.

There is a man there named Harimao. He is also of mixed parentage and has suffered for it, and so he wants to remove these children for his sight. Again and again, he betrays them to government officials.

This man is Oin.

Artyom finds Oin, but Oin refuses to return to the palace. However, when Artyom learns that the children Oin has been informing on are being slaughtered, Oin returns to the palace with Artyom.

But Oin's awakening when he returns to the palace is a cold one.

Oin had chosen to doubt everything his father stood for, yet now he seems on the same tragic path as his father....
