Noto Love Song
Noto, in the early Meiji Period.
Two sons are helping to run a supply store for the ship merchants, but the oldest, Itarou, is drowned in drink. It is the younger son Satarou, who is the reliable one. One day, Satarou's father sends him away on a mission on a new trading ship. He says farewell to his lover Setsu, who folds a thousand cranes as she prays for his safety.
However, Setsu's prayers are not answered, and his ship founders and sinks. A year goes by without word of him.
Satarou is rescued and nursed back to health by an Ainu family. The daughter, Shinta, falls in love with him.
Winter turns to spring, and Satarou returns to his hometown, bringing Shinta with him. However, Setsu has married Tomekichi, who runs a dry-goods store, and his own family shop is gone. Satarou gives up the store his father started and returns with Shinta to a new life.
Love Parade
Princess Helena is returning from studying abroad. There is a party in the palace to celebrate her return, where she meets by chance with Maurice, an aide to the French Ambassador. Maurice mistakes Helena for someone else and kisses her. Rumors begin over their relationship and in order to avoid a diplomatic relationship, the two are reluctantly married.
After the wedding, Maurice goes out drinking with his soldier friends at a beer garden and meets Franci, a violinist. Franci falls in love with the dashing young man, but later when the princess runs away from the palace and meets Franci, she realizes that Maurice is married. Franci flees to France, where she becomes a famous star. Meanwhile, Helena returns to the palace, where (influenced by Franci) she cuts her hair and completely changes her personality. Maurice suddenly feels love for this new version of the princess....
