Blue Lake

A love romance unfurling in a natural world of sand and wind.

Long ago, there was a small country called Mungke Jube in central Asia. They had a long history of friendship with the neighboring country of Khukh Nuur, but skirmishes along the border had become a war.

King Badakhshan of Mungke Jube's eldest son Ribool is appointed to bring down the castle at Khukh Nuur, and then uses the castle as a base of operations while pursuing the enemy.

The king's second son Temüjin is a promising nineteen-year-old young man, but he was not yet ready for war and was staying in the castle at Khukh Nuur with Minister Tarbagan.

In the castle at Khukh Nuur, two sisters were being held captive: Princess Astana and Princess Jurime. Finding a weak spot in the castle's defenses, the sisters escaped, but while fleeing they were attacked by the bandit Sawat, known as the King of the Desert. Temüjin happened to be passing by and rescued the two women.

Because of the long-running friendship between the two countries, Temüjin remembers playing with Princess Astana when they were children. When he lays eyes on the beautiful young woman, now grown, he falls in love.

Princess Astana is defiant against Temüjin, who is now prince of her enemy, but the two eventually are enchanted by each other, and plan to meet secretly.

The Minister of State Tarbagan is confident that the very popular Temüjin will be the next king, and so he has plans to marry him to his granddaughter to bask in the coming glory. Therefore, he must break up Temüjin and Astana.

Instead of the execution of the sisters ordered by the king, he counsels that Ribool marries Astana and Temüjin his granddaughter Megul, which is accepted. Temüjin and Astana are brokenhearted, and the two seek out their horoscope, but are told that indeed their future is inauspicious.

It is then that Genghis Khan advances his armies, and the kingdom of Mungke Jube must swing to answer that invasion. Temüjin wishes to depart for battle, rather than face his unwanted marriage. He entreats his father and elder brother, then departs for the front lines the next morning with Astana in his heart.

Astana watches Temüjin's form recede from the distant stronghold....
