Decaying in Love
The Heian Period.
The Minister of the Interior has a young, good-looking son named Fujiwara no Kiyotaka. Kiyotaka has promised to marry Tamayura, daughter of a lowly literacy instructor. However, his father has forbidden their marriage.
To get them out of what he sees as a predicament, the minister plans to betroth his son to the politically powerful Nijou Yoriko. He then uses his steward's obsession with Tamayura to help split apart her and his son. Their stratagem is to kidnap Tamayura's parents and hold them hostage while forcing her to write a false love letter.
Kiyotaka, angrily believing that Tamayura has betrayed him, and condemns her. Tamayura, meanwhile, is not able to tell him the truth.
During the wedding ceremony between Kiyotaka and Yoriko, Kiyotaka is informed that Tamayura is in danger by someone who claims to be a noble but is in fact the pirate Tamonmaru.
Learning the truth, Kiyotaka throws away his government position and his own standing and leaves to find Tamayura....
