The Flower Festival of Pilar

"The Flower Festival of Pilar," a folk-dance of Spain, interwoven with fragments of the local "Hota" dance and Flamenco dance, dexterously arranged into a dramatic ballet, is a product of the extensive tours through Europe and America made by Takeo Watanabe, a noted Takarazuka choreographer, who is credited with the production of a number of first-rate traditional Japanese traditional folk-lore dancing shows in the past years.

The stage is set in a remote country town called Zaragoza in the province of Aragon, Spain.

Leonard was deeply in love with Isabel. Their amorous relation, however, was not approved of by her parents, and Leonard, in great despair, drifted away from his home.

He joined the gypsies, and, together with them, he started on a wondering journey.

In the course of his gypsying about here and there, it so happened that he committed a crime or two, and, soon, he found himself being hotly pursued by the police.

Unable to resist the temptation to yearn for his native town, he returned to the town of Zaragoza, which happened to be agog with its traditional Flower Festival of Pilar.

He learned that Isabel, with whom he had been passionately in love, was soon to be wed to a young man named Carlos.

Isabel, too was fervently in love with Leonard. Isabel and Leonard danced together with strong passion. On seeing this scene, Carlos could not help becoming jealous, beyond his control, and, out of his jealousy, he challenged Leonard to a fight.
