The Bell-Ringer Yoshichi
Long ago, in a mountain temple. The priest of the temple raised Yoshichi, who became the bell-ringer. However, the ghosts and demons who lurk in the area felt agony all over when Yoshichi rang the bell, and were determined that he would never ring it again.
Also raised at the temple were charcoal-makers Tomekichi and Osayo, and the three are good friends. Tomekichi and Osayo are in love. One day a man calling himself Osayo's father appears, and claims that she is engaged to magistrate Gonroku.
Seeing this state of affairs, the ghosts make a deal with Yoshichi. That being that if he never rings the bell again, they will save Osayo from the situation. Shortly thereafter Osayo returns to the temple, but when Yoshichi does not ring the bell, first the priest and then the other monks get into trouble.
Without the ringing of the bell, the ghosts menace grows and strange things happen in the village. To drive away this evil, Yoshichi must ring the bell. First Osayo and then more and more of the villagers ask him, and Yoshichi at last steps forward....

Swindlers Bernard and Pizarro plan a way to get money by disguising themselves as a young man of means and his servant. They intend to pretend that Bernard has fallen for the newly-rich Silvia, but before he realizes it he's really fallen in love with her. Finding out the truth about his background does not shake Silvia's feelings, and the two run away together.
- Final performance for Fujimori Setsuko, Yuzuki Katsura, and Misuzu Nagisa.
