Christmas in Midsummer
The early 1900s. The island of Cayenne, in the West African country of Guinea. Christmas Eve.
Three prisoners have escaped for the island's prison, and are looking for a place to lay low: Joseph the forger, Albert the marriage swindler, and the slightly cracked Jules.
In order to get the passports that they need to get off the island, the three sneak into Felix's general store, where they are mistaken for roof repairmen.
Felix is an honest man by nature, with a struggling business, a wife, and two lovely daughters named Charlotte and Isabelle. It is then that Felix's cousin Andre , who wants to get control of the store, sends word that he is sending his nephew Paul, who should arrive tomorrow.
Paul was Isabella's lover, but in his letter Andre writes that he has made Paul his heir and Paul has married the daughter of a shipwright. Isabella is so shocked by the news that she collapses.
These three men who were so warmly received by Felix decide to teach Andre and Paul a lesson.
Thanks to the skills of Albert, the eternally gloomy Charlotte becomes a cheerful girl. Isabella is relieved, thanks to finally realizing what Paul is really like.
That Christmas Eve, the three fugitives bring miracles like angels, before returning to prison.
