Augustus


Octavian: the first emperor of Rome, who was granted the title "Augustus," meaning “the illustrious one.” How did this man become the heir of Julius Caesar, who had died in the middle of his career?

This young hero who, following clashes with Caesar’s confidants like Mark Antony and Brutus, reached at the boundaries of the Pax Romana, is portrayed in this drama that interweaves historical fact with imaginative fiction.

The year is 46 BC. Julius Caesar, having overthrown his political rival Pompey, returns to Rome and is given a triumphal ceremony. That night at his manor, a feast of reconciliation is held with those members of the nobility who had opposed him. An uninvited guest appears at this banquet: Pompeia, the daughter of the late Pompey. She slashes at Caesar recklessly, in an attempt to avenge her father, but is stopped by Caesar’s grandnephew Octavius. Octavius implores Caesar to forgive Pompeia’s crime, saying that this would be the symbol of true reconciliation, and he attempts to save her, but...
