    Ok, with all of the DVD's being released around Osa's retirement, I'm getting confused! Can anyone tell me what sort of things are on a "The Last Day" DVD? Or what type of show a "Sayonara Show" is?

    It's not necessarily the exact same sayonara show, released multiple times. It's performed a total of four times, on the raku and rakumae at both the Daigekijou and the Tokyo Gekijou, and it sometimes happens that the memorial VHS/DVD features the sayonara show after the o-raku at the Daigekijou while the last day VHS/DVD shows us the sayonara show following the Tokyo o-raku.

    Hanagumi had very late okeiko last night, practicing for Osa-san's sayonara show. Sigh. What I wouldn't give for a ticket.

    Wow, thanks for your help everyone! I think I have a better idea of what's going on now. :) Isn't it a bit odd that the exact same Sayonara Show is on two different DVD's though? O.o

    Yes, sorry, perhaps I didn't write that very clearly. KyaniteD described the Last Day VHS/DVD, and I did the memorial/Sayonara Show VHS/DVD. Like you said, the former focuses on the star's final day, while the latter is about her entire career. I tend to forget that the Sayonara Show is also on The Last Day, because I'm scatter-brained like that.

    And I guess a lot of confusion stems around the phrase "sayonara show" — it doesn't refer to the final night of their final performance, which in Osa's case would be Adieu Marseille/Love Symphony, but to an entirely different, shorter concert-ish performance done after the last run of Adieu/Love.

    From a review I did about Rika's memorial VHS:

    The first hour was a summary of everything Rika had done in Takarazuka. The clips were in sections: first stage appearance, stage history in Hanagumi, Hoshigumi, and Tsukigumi, shinjin koen, Bow Hall plays, Theater Drama City plays, her plays as a top star, and extras. And in between she talked about her experiences in little interviews. Then a half hour for her sayonara show, and a half hour for her final news conference, leaving the Daigeki, and her parade.

    From Tartan's The Last Day:

    The first hour was a very tiny clip of Taatan arriving at the theater for the last performance of Glassy Landscape/Babylon. Then the rest of the first hour was clips of all of Taatan's best scenes from GL/B. This was very cool in some parts, because I got to see reactions and acting from Taatan that aren't on the commercial release because the camera is focusing on one of the other characters. The second hour contained her Sayonara Show (~30 min), her final press conference as Top Star, and a tiny bit of her parade.

    I got "Sincerely yours" (TCAD-136) for Watarus retirement and that contains rather short clips from the last day, the career summary footage and the Sayonara show. I have assumed that the Last day dvd (TCAD-151) contained something else like more documentation of the last day and the Sayonara show but no career summary footage. But I never bought the Last day dvd so I don't know for sure.

    The Sayonara Show is a special 30 - 50 minute performance on the star's last day. It could include some of their most famous songs and/or dances re-staged.

    The video/DVD release usually also includes 1 1/2 hours or so of footage of just about everything the star has ever appeared in, as well as short interviews/commentary by the star.

    Last Day VHS/DVD has footage of the day of the star's last performance. It includes footage of the star coming to the theater, whatever sort of crazy reception their troupe has prepared for them, the performance itself, the sayonara show (the star performing a selection of songs from shows she starred in), graduation ceremony, and leaving the theater. There's quite a bit backstage footage, it's a lot of fun and a must have for every fan. :P

    I love that Makoto Tsubasa's Last Day is titled The 9541st Day. It sounds much more optimistic... :D
