Wisteria Viewing Banquet
A Japanese-style musical comedy set in the northern Etchū Province during the Nara Period.
Sakata no Hanamaro drank too much and blundered during the very important new year ceremony, and was demoted to a mere warehouse administrator.
In these circumstances, he won't be able to marry off his daughters Fuji-hime and Yuki-hime well. From time to time Councillor Fujiwara comes to the area, all the way from the capital. Hanamaro thinks on how he used to work for him, and did well harvesting, and thinks that he is likely to fall in love with his daughters.
First, he has his eldest, Fuji-hime, grapple with visibly showing affection, but she goes overboard, and the councilor swoons as if hit over the head with a rock.
Meanwhile, the younger, Yuki-hime, and her cousin Yurimaro are in love, although Yurimaro's mother Asamushi is strongly opposed and won't allow them to marry. Worried about this and that, Yuki-hime sleepwalks every night, wandering outdoors and getting lost.
Furthermore, Hanamaro's brother's wife Asamushi begins to cozy up to the councilor.
Thus the poor councilor's love troubles just keep on expanding....
