Average annual audience count for Takarazuka?

Hello, I'm currently writing a paper, and I just need a reputable citation for either the number of people who attend shows or annual revenue. On the wikipedia article it says the theatre gets around 2.5 million attendees per year, but there's no citation - and wikipedia is not a valid resource for an academic paper.

I currently have the Jennifer Robertson "Takarazuka" book, so if there's something in there I missed I have that (in the index it says "audience - size of" on page 115, but there's nothing on that page about numbers).

Thanks!

That number sounds like an estimate to me. The Tokyo theater has about 2000 seats, and the mura theater about 2500. If you assume 100% capacity and 8 performances a week, that'll bring you to about 2 million - plus the touring shows that typically play to smaller theaters. But, as much as Takarazuka shows tend to sell out, I doubt even they maintain 100% capacity, and they do have weeks off for changing the sets between shows. But it would explain where the 2.5 million number came from.

I agree with Jen, I don't think they've ever released official numbers, so maybe the best you can get are estimates from other academic sources.

I'm not certain if you'll have huge luck, as I think Hankyu doesn't release the information. They do release their annual revenue reports, but the theater is included in the "entertainment" category, which also includes the Hanshin Tigers.

Maybe someone else will have a better idea where to look for attendance figures.....
