2002/05/11 Star Troupe: 琴まりえ Koto Marie

She tells us that it was a joint collaboration of everyone to think of a musumeyaku-like name which was easy to read and remember. "Koto" was the idea of her parents, and "Marie" of her classmates.

I asked my classmates -What kind of image do I have?- and they answered "Marie, I should think." It has good resonance, and it goes well with "Koto." I had wanted a name that stood out neatly, and so it was decided. I often hear that it fits well with being from Kyoto, but that really had nothing to do with it.

Her nickname "Yuuko" is her real name. She is also called "KotoKoto" by the upperclassmen and "Koto-chan" by fans.

Dance is her specialty, and she is also a musumeyaku with a sweet voice. Her first lead role in a shinjin kouen was Marie Antoinette from "The Rose of Versailles". It wouldn't do if I didn't have the outward appearance of a queen; the hoop dress was splendid, but in order not to trip over the hem or stumble I had to step lightly.

Right now she is playing the role of a female university student in "Prague Spring" at the Grand Theater. And this shinjin kouen is her second female lead. This time she plays the East German, anti-establishment activist Katalina. It is very profound and difficult and she seems to have had difficulties preparing the role, but she has put up a good fight. She tells us she has gradually come to see the interest of the performance, and is enjoying it.

Her goal is to be a musumeyaku who makes my otokoyaku partner look wonderful, and who also shines alone.
