Assuming that they're not planning on letting the troupes grow infinitely large one has to expect that more or less the same number of people will retire each year as is added into the troupes from the music school.

See, I'm way too lazy to do something like that. :D Thanks Jen.

Wow, Hoshi always takes out a lot... this reminds me of when Osa retired, I was explaining to my father that it was a big deal because lots of people often went retire with an outgoing top star. He gave me a suspicious look and said, "And when they die, does everyone else get buried with them?"

So, I've been curious, because I remembered lots retiring with other top stars, so I went back and looked at our retirement charts to just look at shows where top otokoyaku retired. I don't think things are that unusual yet. 2001 and 2006 are hard years to beat, though... XD

2009

Aran Kei + 9 from Hoshi

2007

Haruno Sumire + 1 Senka and 3 from Hana
Takashiro Kei + 6 from Sora

2006

Asami Hikaru + 1 Senka and 8 from Yuki
Kozuki Wataru + 9 from Hoshi
Wao Youka + 5 from Sora

2004

Shibuki Jun + 8 from Tsuki

2003

Kouju Tatsuki + 7 from Hoshi

2002

Emao Yuu + 1 Senka and 4 from Yuki
Takumi Hibiki + 5 from Hana

2001

Aika Mire + 1 Senka and 9 from Hana
Minoru Kou + 6 from Hoshi
Makoto Tsubasa + 6 from Tsuki
(NOT a retirement, but... Todoroki Yuu moves to Senka) + 6 Yuki retirements

2000

Shizuki Asato + 1 from Sora

1998

Asaji Saki + 3 from Hoshi
Maya Miki + 4 from Hana

1997

Takane Fubuki + 9 from Yuki
Kuze Seika + 4 from Tsuki

1996

Ichiro Maki + 8 from Yuki
I don't think it's anything that unusual, considering how many of the current tops took over in 2006, when three otokoyaku tops retired. 2009 will mark the third year since then, so it seems about due. And of course, top star retirements provide an opportunity for anyone who was thinking about retiring to do so.
I'll admit I found the Hoshi retirements surprising, though it also reminded me of when Kuon Maya and Tsubaki Hiroka retired after getting off to such a promising start. Kuon married and Tsubaki took a *really* long break from the stage. :)
