  • In addition to her excellent singing and acting, Ashihara was famous for being one of the first otokoyaku to sport short hair.
  • She is said to be the first otokoyaku to sing with jigoe (地声, literally "ground voice").
  • Received the Order of the Sacred Treasure in 1989.
  • After retiring, she appeared with the Imperial Opera and in many musical plays. Some of her more well known roles include the grandmother in "Gen-chan Series" and the Sweet Shop Mistress in "Niji no Oru."
  • Ashihara was married to shoujo manga artist Nakahara Jun'ichi. She remained an opponent of war and nuclear weapons until she passed away in 1997.
