Questions relating to Solferino

Technically would like to move these to the Questions forum or going to see a live show, but apparently I can only move threads within a forum.

Let's see what happens....

Glad you enjoyed Solferino, even if you weren't feeling well. :( I hope I'll get a chance to see it this weekend.

If Mizu continues performing after she retires, it's entirely possible that she'll have a new fan club. And lately most top stars have made it possible for foreigners to join their OG fan clubs. Don't give up yet!

I am back from Japan, Solferino was incredible.
I was crying at least three different times (along with the ladies sitting to either side of me)

There is only one thing....

I missed seeing most of the performers arrive because I was sick all night before I went to the show.
So I waited outside after they opened the doors...and I never saw tables set up for ticket distribution for the fanclubs....
I could cry....I really want to join Mizu's fan club, even more now that I have seen her perform with my own eyes.

I did at least get my courage up and drop off a gift for her (thank you for telling me where to go Caithion!)

Even if some of them have it as a hobby, or remember a bit from high school, they might not be willing to use it, or might get too flustered to use it. Also, if you can't communicate at all in Japanese, they might consider that a reason not to have you in the club — someone who can't read the rules/information might not be what they want. (← This is totally worst case scenario, and I doubt it very much, but it's worth keeping in mind.) I'm not sure about Mizu's club, though, I don't know anything about them.

You are ALL Wonderful!!

Thank you so much.
I am so excited!
..now if I can just stop being so darn nervous (I am not scared! I swear, really...)

Thank you

> I don't know any staff member in Tokyo club unfortunately. I can only say Osaka club staff are very very nice people. Most of them don't speak English, but even for those who don't remember any English they've learned, they would make their very best effort to make sure you understand what they are trying to say. The Osaka club staff will likely go and help out in the Tokyo run. Also I've only heard good things about Tokyo staff, so I think it's quite likely that the Tokyo staff will follow this trend.

Not to yet further confuse anyone, but Touko would usually have TWO signs: the one with her name in kanji was for her "personal" tickets for her guests and the one with the club name was in romaji.

But I think you're safe if you just go up to any sign displaying Mizu's name in any language. ;)

Kanji.

> Do you think any of the fan club personal behind the table will speak English?

I would go in with the assumption of "no English". Even if some of them have it as a hobby, or remember a bit from high school, they might not be willing to use it, or might get too flustered to use it. Also, if you can't communicate at all in Japanese, they might consider that a reason not to have you in the club — someone who can't read the rules/information might not be what they want. Emergency phrase of the hour:
水さんのファンクラブに入会したいです。
Mizu-san no fan club ni nyuukai shitai desu.
I'd like to join Mizu's fan club.

I just thought of another question...

I know how to find fan club people...and when to when to look for.
will the sign on the table have Mizu's name in Kanji or Roman lettering?
Do you think any of the fan club personal behind the table will speak English?

I know that some of you that have answered before are the fan club, so hopefully you may have a clue about this.
I am working on Japanese, but I am still quite weak (unfortunately) and rather shy.

Thank you.

Glad to help! :) Best of luck with Mizu's club.

About what to wear — Whatever you're comfortable with. I've seen folks in T-shirts and jeans (albeit fashionable ones), and I've seen folks dressed up, and I've seen folks in kimono.

I tend to wear fashionable but comfortable when Tsukigumi's in town, since I'm in the clothes and on my feet all day. For other troupes I go a bit more casual because I'm not worried about keeping up appearances. ;)

Thank you all so much for all the help.

I am really getting psyched up for the trip now, and my ticket for the show should be here anyday.
I have copious notes written on when to get there and who to look for and what they should be wearing...
I am going to try to talk to them about joining Mizu-san's fan club, so please keep your fingers crossed for me that new member's are still being accepted.

which as I copied them out made me think of one more question...what is appropriate attire for attending the show for those not in clubs?

Thank you!

How do you know the FC staff from the rest of the members?

Also, one other slightly off topic question.
The Quatre Reves store at the theater, I know sells fan goods, but do they also sell DVDs of the different shows (ie past ones) If not, is the a store (not the online ones, I mean a physical store) that does?

Thank you, you two have been wonderful.
I wish I could meet you both and give you enormous hugs.

Hmm... Mizu's club accepts overseas members, but I think once an actress announces retirement, her fan club will no longer take new members; of course I think it's always good to try as I am not 100% if Mizu's club is still accepting members. If you want to ask, I think you can ask after Mizu goes in, provided the FC staff don't seem to be busy. That's what I did anyway. You can ask during ticket distribution of course, better go when there are not too many members queuing for tickets...

> > Can I add that if there are two shows that day, you would be better off arriving at about 8:30. Mizu usually comes in at around 8:45. If there is only one performance that day or if the first show starts at 1pm, it is usually 10:30, so better arrive 15 minutes earlier. The 4 PM show was a reserved show for TomonoKai members, but not all of the tickets sold in the club raffle, so then they opened it up to the general public as well to sell the rest. I think the only other difference will be which performers are more morning people, and which aren't. ;)
