top star (トプ・スター):

The "leading man", so to speak, of each Takarazuka troupe. A top star receives the lead male role in every Grand Theater performance until they retire. The top star of a troupe is always an otokoyaku.

Especially among English-speaking fans, the top musumeyaku is also considered to be a "top star". However, she is officially called the "top musumeyaku". Like the top stars, top musumeyaku are usually given the lead female roles in every Grand Theater performance until they retire.

Top star system was established in 1980s. Until then, leading otokoyaku of the troupe was only the "informal top star". Thereby, first top stars were: Matsu Akira (Flower), Daichi Mao (Moon), Asami Rei (Snow), and Setouchi Miya (Star).
