Other

  • Used to be a musumeyaku, but shortly after hatsubutai switched to otokoyaku because of her height (according to Takarazuka 70th anniversary memorial book, it happened after Paris - New York (1933).
  • It is difficult to say to which troupe she was assigned after hatsubutai, because she appeared in performances of all troupes (e.g., in Circus with Snow troupe in May, 1929, and then in Famous Edo Tales with Moon in September the same year, and then in Flower troupe Cinderella in October). She was transferred to Dance Senka in January, 1930 and has probably continued performing with all troupes until the Star troupe was created. It seems that even later she was not strictly assigned to any troupe at all, though performed mainly with Star in 30es and with Snow in 40es.
  • Did not perform for half a year in 1957 due to illness.
  • They say that her stage name was chosen by Hikita Ichirou, president of the Board of directors. Her father chose "Shikijima Michiko", but 'sienne refused to use it, calling it "disgusting".
  • Vice Troupe Leader of Snow from '40-'45; Troupe Leader from '45-'50.
  • One of the group of 'siennes who performed in China (specifically, Manchukuo) during WWII.
  • For a period between 1956 - 1967, she directed several productions that she also starred in.
  • Was a member of the company's board of directors.
  • She was still a member of the company until her death of pneumonia on August 29th 2012. She was 96 years old. A public memorial service was held at Bow Hall on September 26, 2012
