2003/04/01 Moon Troupe: 大空祐飛 Oozora Yuuhi
The name of Takarasienne: My father wanted "Yuuhi"
It's a magnificent stage name that conjures images of flying in the sky.
"My father wanted 『雄飛』 ("Yuuhi"), no matter what. 『雄』 is very manly, so I chose the slightly softer 『祐』. I thought of many different family names, but 『大空』 was the only one that seemed to fit. I didn't want it to overpower my name."
She's a fresh and invigorating otokoyaku star. In the previous production "At the End of a Long Spring", she was challanged for the first time with a female role, and surprised us all with her "transformation" into a stylish and beautiful lawyer.
"It was fresh and fun, but after almost a half year of playing a woman, I was begining to want to play otokoyaku parts again."
Starting on April 4th, Moon Troupe will be doing "Topography of Flowery Takarazuka", where she'll play a young kabuki actor and such, and "Senor Don Juan", where she'll play a manager named Steve who protects a Hollywood actress from the shadows (until May 19th).
"It's been a while since I've done a Japanese style show, and to sing the part of a kabuki actor has always been a dream. It demands a kind of artless sexiness. The part in the play is a generous, gentlemanly role. For me it has the image of Kevin Costner from "The Bodyguard."
It's been more than ten years since she joined, and her position has risen, and her responsibilities have increased.
"I can't think of anywhere other than Takarazuka that I'd want to be. It's helped me to figure out my complexities and my own colors. I want to be able to bring out the sircumstances of the roles I play by drawing on my own experiences and feelings."
