  • While the official materials do not acknowledge any relationship, the show appears heavily based on the 1901 book/play If I Were King and the 1925 musical/1930 film Vagabond King. One of the songs composed by Rupert Friml for Vagabond King was contracted for the show, while most of the other songs are licensed from other Broadway shows and Western artists.
